The new Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching doubles your qualifications in yoga teaching.  Not only is it recognized with Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia, but it is also an ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority) accredited national course, which enhances its international standing because Australia has one of the most internationally recognised vocational education systems anywhere in the world..

Double the qualification in Yoga Teaching

If you’re serious about making yoga teaching your profession than you won’t find a higher-level qualification than Byron Yoga Centre’s Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching.   In order to offer this ASQA nationally recognized course, Byron Yoga Centre is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and all our trainers are nationally recognised Training and Assessment trainers and assessors.

 

The Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching (91485 NSW) is Austudy approved.  The course includes Level I and II teaching qualifications and is fully recognised with Yoga Alliance (500 hours) and Yoga Australia (350 hours).

With an academically robust timetable spanning 8 full-time weeks, this course offers you the opportunity to really deepen your yoga studies both in terms of the theory and practice of teaching yoga safely and with a solid knowledge base.

The course is comprised of 10 units of competency that are transferable within the ASQA education system. These are;

  • HLTCOM404B Communicate Effectively with Clients

  • HLTFA301B Apply First Aid

  • HLTAP301A Recognise Healthy Body Systems in a Health Care context

  • TAADEL402 Facilitate Group Based Learning

  • SRSCGP002A Include Special Interest Groups or People with Special Needs

  • SRXFOHS001 Follow Defined OH&S Policies and Procedures

  • BYC401 Work within a Yoga School Framework

  • BYC402 Perform a Range of Yoga Practices

  • BYC403 Teach a General Yoga Class

There is an option to obtain your Senior First Aid Certificate during the course at an additional cost.

The course is a Centrelink approved short course. You may apply to Centrelink for Ausstudy, the Education Supplement or the Education Entry Payment.

The length of the course has been increased from seven to eight weeks, adding a further 40 contact hours.

Here’s an overview of the course components:

  • Attend regular early morning and evening meditation, pranayama and asana classes with a focus on sequencing of postures from 6.00 - 7.45am and from 7.00 to 8.00pm.
  • Attend practical and theory sessions between 9.00am and 12.30pm, then 2.00pm and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Regular workshops presented by guest speakers on specialised yoga.
  • Trainees participate in five general yoga classes per week, with a focus on deepening their understanding and practice of yoga sequencing, adjustments, corrections and use of props.
  • Spend a minimum of one-and-a-half hours per day doing assignments such as practising and recording meditation and pranayama sessions, doing anatomy and physiology homework, or answering questions on previous day’s subjects.
  • As part of the Level 2 course, trainees will gain valuable teaching experience at public classes at the Byron Yoga Centre - morning classes at 6.00am and afternoon classes at 4.00pm
  • Weekend practice sessions and evening meditations are also available for those who would like to attend (these are required to achieve the 500 hours).

Training Location – Byron Yoga Centre

The Course is held at one of our peaceful training venues in Byron Bay – within walking/bike-ride’s distance from Byron Bay’s town-centre and beaches.

Course Package for Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching Teacher Training includes:

  • Full time eight week training – lectures and supervision 5 – 7 days per week.
  • Comprehensive Training Manuals and Journals.

Entry Requirements

A pre-requisite to the course is that you have a minimum of one hundred and twenty hours of class asana (posture) practice over a one to two year period

We also require that you have a history of regular committed practice of yoga at home over a period of at least one to two years.

Fitness industry applicants holding a Certificate III in Group Fitness may require less yoga practise.

A suitable assessment for English language competency may be used if required. English must be at a university level both written and verbal.

Accommodation:

Purna Residential Accommodation

A very limited number of places in share accommodation are available at our specially designed yoga centre. This accommodation is clean and simple, with shared rooms and a communal kitchen from $150 per week.

Trainees in residence are expected to be cigarette, drug and alcohol free and are asked to maintain silence (where practical) in the mornings before 9am and after 9.30pm and at ALL times in the rooms.

We also ask that you be mindful that the residential accommodation is a place of study and learning, and that socialising can be done at local cafés or the beach. We also ask trainees in residence to be vegetarian on site.

If you are happy with the above conditions, we recommend that trainees do stay in the residential accommodation to gain the most from the course. You can apply for accommodation at the time of your booking.

Non-Residential Accommodation

A range of other alternative yoga friendly accommodation, including single options, will be sent to you, on request, at the time of booking.

Food

Food is not provided on this course. Those living on site will have access to communal shopping trips provided by the centre and an introduction to Sattvic cooking.
 

Byron Bay - General Information

Cape Byron is Australia's most easterly point, located on the North Coast of New South Wales. With its numerous beaches, unspoilt hinterland, and relaxed lifestyle, Byron Bay is a popular tourist destination. It is also a place where artists, musicians, dancers, writers, surfers, healers and of course yogis express their diversity and individuality.

The town has all major facilities: a hospital, cinema, supermarket, health food stores and great restaurants, as well as a flourishing alternative health industry. Bicycle is the easiest way to get around town and easily organised through Byron Yoga Centre.

The average summer temperature is 21C - 28C, and average winter temperature is 15C - 21C, There are also periods of heavy rainfall, especially in summer. The area has a total annual rainfall of 1734mm.

Byron Shire has a population of close to 30,000, while the town of Byron Bay has a population of about 9,000.

Byron Bay is located just off the Pacific Highway, 800kms north of Sydney, 175kms south of Brisbane. Airports are located in Ballina (30mins south) or Coolangatta (60mins north) and busses and trains arrive regularly.
